Notes on "Self Interest"

While reading the paper this morning i came across to an article in manilatimes.net written by Efren L. Danao dated january 6 2015. The article is a reprint of the great essay by  Jaeyoun Kim essay on  filipinos complaining about the corruption in the Philippines.  This essay describes the patriotism of Korean people, their great love for their country above their personal interest.

On my personal experience and observation majority of filipino people really put personal interest above common good.  Most of the decisions and actions that we do are based on personal interest consciously or unconsciously.

In the case of getting the most fitted talent for a certain task or  job we tend look at the person instead of the job responsibilities. The question should be what knowledge, skill, potential and previous jobs am i looking for  the specific task? It is true that every knowledge and skill are acquired along the way but it takes the right talent to perform  technical and mission critical job.  If a job requires specific talent highest educational level is not a guarantee that a person can perform the task.  It is important to point that those great people especially in IT industry are dropped out from school but have great success because they are the right talent and they do what they love to do.
I am hoping that decision maker should look on the broader perspective, consider every aspect decide based on merit and set aside self centric decisions.

Lastly, i would like to point that a great captain knows every people in the ship their skills and capabilities, knows the in and out of the ship and especially he knows where the ship is heading.

Below is the essay of Jaeyoun Kim that is worth sharing, reading and reflecting.
