Initially, i got a good impression of this firewall. It has the enterprise features with very affordable price.
Overall management: great management interface
Features: Support the enterprise level capability.
It has IDS/IDP, VPN, APL, Routing features, traffic shaping, support for external
authentication.

I was task to install this product to one of our client. I successfully installed it in less than an hour with the basic firewalling. After all the test that i have conducted: VOIP traffic, VPN, regular & internet traffic, it was a great performance.

Suddenly after three months, the device starts deteriorating with its performance.
The initial problem that i've encountered is that the internet traffic becomes slow. Then after a day, pop3 service can no longer pass through the firewall. And later it finally broke down so I decided to replace the device.


I have decided to no longer recommend this for an enterprise firewall appliance. Try Astaro instead.

Nortel GBIC-LX Problem

It was really a stressful week for me dealing with nortel baystack switch 470-48T-PWR problem on gbic lx recognition.

My diagnostics shows that the default software for baystack 470-48T-PWR does not have support for 1000base-lx gbic.

With the advice of fellow networking guy, I have to upgrade the software. But I cannot proceed with the installation because i might violate nortel warranty terms and condition.

On my point of view, Its really hard to look for information and support on nortel products.
