Cyber Security - Protecting the business Executive Briefings

I was invited on a security briefing by the Computer World last Oct 9, 2008.

It was a nice experience to be a part of an event that talks about IT Security. I was impressed by the first speaker who discussed the present state of Philippine government laws towards IT security and Cybercrimes. 

Some of the speakers talks about their products and I find it boring.

A guy from  mcAfee Mr. Vu Huy Nguyen talks on the present state and pains of Asia in IT security. It was really interesting listening to him as he discussed the type of attacks, malware development, trends and lots of more interesting topic.

BFAD Warning on yakult, vitasoy and mister donuts

Installing rsync and wget on my Mac

Coming from GNU/Linux im  missing some tools and utilities.

There are great utilities i been using like wget, rsync that help me on my computing.

Im glad that i make them all work with my  Mac OSX Leopard 10.5.4 with little tweak and few command on the terminal.

Downloaded the source code, compile and install to my system.

I modified my environment variables and export to my $PATH. 

Happy computing "OS X" rocks.

Initially, i got a good impression of this firewall. It has the enterprise features with very affordable price.
Overall management: great management interface
Features: Support the enterprise level capability.
It has IDS/IDP, VPN, APL, Routing features, traffic shaping, support for external
authentication.

I was task to install this product to one of our client. I successfully installed it in less than an hour with the basic firewalling. After all the test that i have conducted: VOIP traffic, VPN, regular & internet traffic, it was a great performance.

Suddenly after three months, the device starts deteriorating with its performance.
The initial problem that i've encountered is that the internet traffic becomes slow. Then after a day, pop3 service can no longer pass through the firewall. And later it finally broke down so I decided to replace the device.


I have decided to no longer recommend this for an enterprise firewall appliance. Try Astaro instead.

Nortel GBIC-LX Problem

It was really a stressful week for me dealing with nortel baystack switch 470-48T-PWR problem on gbic lx recognition.

My diagnostics shows that the default software for baystack 470-48T-PWR does not have support for 1000base-lx gbic.

With the advice of fellow networking guy, I have to upgrade the software. But I cannot proceed with the installation because i might violate nortel warranty terms and condition.

On my point of view, Its really hard to look for information and support on nortel products.
